Train Journey Home

Consists of reviewing the Lewis Day contract Terms and Conditions.

Commuter Rush

This is the evening rush at Waterloo. Everyone looking up at boards,
checking times and platforms and rushing for their trains. Even me!

Lunchtime Walk

The Gherkin is right next to our building.

I went to the Conditor & Cook at the bottom of the Gherkin to buy a
nice piece of cake.

Be the change

It was hard being back in work today. I have so much to get finished
before the end of the week.

Most of the pressing tasks are to do with the staff appraisals that I
did not manage to finish before I had to drop everything and go to SA.

The quote below is attributed to Ghandi and is on a building site just
off Aviva Plaza in Leadenhall Street.

I think it means that change starts with me and not with you or others
first.

Back on the train

It is amazing how much lighter it is now than three weeks ago.

Here we go, back on the daily commute from Hook to London Waterloo.

Such is life

The direction of the sun is now changing the shape of the shadows on
the wing.

We should be landing in an hour and a half.

Vol Truis

The word should be volstruis as corrected by pen below.

This is the Afrikaans word for ostrich.

Delicious!

Oupa

Went to the old age home to say goodbye to Oupa. He turned 97 two
weeks ago.

When we got there he was about to eat so we did not stay long.

Arauna Superette

Over twenty years ago, the day just before I was to leave home to go
do my National Service, my Dad asked me to take the blue VW Beetle
down to the Cafe and buy him a packet of Lucky Strike cigarettes.

I bought the cigarettes and got back in the car and it would not
start. The starter motor was turning but the engine did not want to
catch.

All of a sudden there was a massive explosion as the back of the car
caught alight.

The petrol pipe had come loose and there was a stream of petrol in the
road and all over the engine before it caught and blew up.

I was lucky to get out quicky and the Cafe owner rushed out with his
red extinguisher and sprayed all the flames.

I went there again today and although it is the same owner, just a lot
Breyer, he did not remember.

I even like the clouds

The wide open spaces, the isolated farm house in the distance, the
barbed wire fence and the clouds. Even the clouds.

Good things

There are few things more satisfying in life than a good fire and then
a good piece of meat!

Original Romany Creams?

I am sure that the originals were never mint flavoured!

I love the food in the Boland

Taken in a small restaurant in Stellenbosch Kerk Straat.

Butternut Quiche with salad and pot bread.

Laborie Champagne

They do not call it champagne because they are not allowed to. They call it Sparkling Wine.

I had a little at their wine tasting and thought it was fantastic. It cost R52 per bottle which is just over GBP 3.00.

I bought a cold bottle and took it to the restaurant but could only have a glass and a half.

A young couple arrived with two young children. I asked the staff to give them a glass each as if it was complimentary from the restaurant.

A few minutes layer a young couple French or Belgian arrived and I did the same with them.

It was a pleasure to see their smiles and their eyes light up.

I'll call it Champagne as I think it deserves the name!
